KAPOK ABLAZE
FIRE IN MATTRESS MILL BOY SEVERELY BURNED. Au outbreak of lire occurred in Ellis's mattress mill in the Kaikorai Valley road yesterday morning and resulted in damage being done to the iron and brick buildings. The contents, which consisted principally of kapok, were also badly damaged by lire and water. The City Fire Brigade was summoned by an automatic alarm, and when the Eoslyn section arrived on the scene of the outbreak the fire was burning fiercely. It was, however, quickly subdued. The building and contents were insured with the United Office, but the amount is not known:
Roy Newman, aged 15 years, an employee at the mill, was caught in the kapok blaze and suffered severe burns about’ the head and arms. He was admitted to the Hospital at 11.15 yesterday morning, and was placed on the seriously ill list. He resides at 36 Canningtou road.
CHIMNEY FIRE. The City Brigade turned out to a chimney five at Duke street at 2.55 p.m. yesterday. No damage was done.
