By Divot. ST. CLAIR CLUB The competitions at St. Clair last Saturday were postponed on account of the weather, and will be played this weekend. A number of Belleknowes Club players are expected at St. Clair on Sunday, when some friendly games will be arranged. The finals of the Knock-out Competition and the Stroke Handicap will be played on Saturday. ST. CLAIR LADIES' CLUB On Tuesday the St. Clair Ladies’ Golf Club held a Senior and Junior Ladies’ Golf _UniOn Medal Competition in conjunction with which special prizes were presented by Messrs Walker and Hall. Although the weather was fine, the course was very wet, and good lies on the fairways were the exception rather than the rule. In consequence of this, the scores were unusually high. Mr s Gilbert won the senior event with a card of 99—17 82. The junior event was won by Mrs Strang with a card of 115 —36—79. To-day a Four-ball Bogey Competition for which player* will choose their own partners and complete their own fours will be held. On Tuesday a Medal Foursomes Competition will be held. t OTAGO LADIES' CLUB In the Bogey Match held at Balmacewen on Tuesday Mrs Dawson won the A Grade with a card of 3, down, and the B Grade was won by Mrs Aspinall with 5 down. On Thursday a Medal Foursomes Competition will be held, for which Miss M'Hutcheson-has presented prizes to celebrate her feat in holing in 1 at the short fourth last week. Next Tuesday there will be a B Grade Medal Handicap. The one-day tournament for country players was a great success. This is the first meeting of what is intended to be an annual event, and there were 18 members from, the country clubs. The weather was perfect, and an enjoyable day was spent on the links. Miss Fleming, of Balclutha, is to be congratulated on being the first winner of the Balmacewen Cleek. Other winners were: Morning Stroke Match, Mrs Anderson (Otago); Canadian Foursomes, Mrs George (Roxburgh) and Mrs Jack (Otago). CROMWELL CLUB The Cromwell Club’s tournament, which is being held on the Cromwell links on Friday and Saturday, September 14 and 15, promises to be a yery successful fixture. Already there is a good entry of visitors, and these people can rely upon having some good sport among picturesque and romantic surroundings. The links are reported to be in excellent condition. NEW ZEALAND GOLF ASSOCIATION (INC.) The monthly meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Golf Association was held at the secretary’s office, National Bank Buildings, Wellington, on Wednesday, September 5, 1934. 1934 Championship Meeting.—A letter was read from the Wanganui Golf Club indicating that Messrs Imlay and Gonville Saunders, both life members of the club, had offered to-present a challenge cup or plate for permanent competition in the event to be known as the New Zealand Plate.—The council decided that it would very willingly accept the offer of Messrs Saunders, and considered that these gentlemen are to be commended for the sporting spirit shown. Melbourne Centenary Tournament.—An application for financial assistance in connection with the visit of New Zealand professionals to Melbourne was received from the, New Zealand Professional Golfers’ Association, but it was resolved that -it was not'Within the province of the council to make donations of this nature, which should have come from individual players, which it was understood was already beim; given effect to. Greenkeeping Research. —It was reported that the proof of the second annual report had now been, checked over by the New Zealand Golf Green Research Committee, and the final printing was being proceeded with. A lengthy, letter was received from Mr F. W. Hobbs, chairman ot the New Zealand Golf Green Research Committee, in which he outlined con-

siderable expenditure which was considered necessary. It was resolved to send a. copy of the recommendations to all duba and to indicate to them that delegates should be directed how to vote on the question ,of the substantial outlay at the annual general meeting. Travelling Professionals. —It was reported that both Campbell and Green had finished vp their tours for this season and that their services had been completely satisfactory both to the association and to the clubs which they had visited. American Professional Golfers. —A letter was received from the Professional Golfers’ Association of America, dated August 11, 1934, in which it was stated that the American Professional Golfers’ Association was sending a team of six to Australia on the Mariposa, leaving Los Angeles on October 17, and calling at Auckland on November 2. It was suggested that representatives of this association should make contact with the team upon arrival and complete arrangements for the team’s visit to New Zealand upon its return to Wellington on December 10. It was tentatively suggested that the team should play a match against New Zealand in Wellington or in Auckland and play in a medal play competition in the city in which the team match was not played. ROXBURGH GOLF CLUB Last Saturday brought the knock-out competition to the semi-final stage, when Jack Jeffery beat J. Pannett by-4 and 3 and R. Prisk beat Ken Wright 1 up. The latter match was fought out to the last hole, at which Ken Wright wanted a foot putt. to make the score all square, but failed. Next Saturday the final will be fought out, and this will terminate the most popular match in the club’s programme. In the club match for the members who were not engaged in the .knock-out competition T. T. Sandes handed in the best score. The following were the best cards:—T. T. Sandes, 92 gross, 20 handicap, 72 net; G. Gifford, 91 —17—74; F, J. Laloli, 86—10—76; B. Gilmcrur, 96—20—76; F. Dingwall, 104 —18—86. The ladies of the club played a special medal match over 18 holes for a golf belt presented by Mrs Breeze, an old friend of the club. This produced a very interesting competition. The winner, Mrs F. .A. Laloli, is one of .the senior -members of the'club, and the president, in fitting the belt on her at the conclusion of , the game, said: “It’s at times like this you need j miuties.” Mrs Laloli smilingly replied, thanking Mrs Breeze, with whom she had played so many games in the recent tournament.
