SCULLING TITLE RACE POSTPONED. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) TORONTO, August 30. The Pearce-Miller sculling race, scheduled for Friday, has been postponed indefinitely on account of Miller’s sudden illness. He is suffering from slight congestion of the lungs, which developed following a chill. Miller was showing Joe Wright, sen., a sculling trick and upset his shell, a chill following from his immersion in the icy waters of Lake Ontario. His physician said Miller would not bo able to meet Pearce for about a week. Pearce was reported to-night to have objected to the postponement of the race. It was said he asked that the race should be raced with Barry as a substitute. Pearce is said to have declared that he had regulated his training so as to be at the peak of his form on Friday night. If the race was not forfeited by Miller someone else should compete. Pearce was said to have packed up and left for Hamilton. Barry appeared at the Canadian National Exhibition sports headquartets, saying he had been notified by Pearce to make arrangements to act as substitute. Race officials said they could not consider such a proposition and Barry expressed his displeasure, claiming that Pearce’s request inferred that everything had been arranged. Barry said he planned to catch the Empress of Britain and sail home on Thursday night, and had disrupted his plans to return to the exhibition. ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL MATCHES AT HOME.
