Ministerial. As previously announced, the Post-master-general (Mr Adam Hamilton), acting on medical advice, entered a private hospital for rest and treatment on August 20. He underwent a serious operation (says a Press Association telegram from Wellington), but he is now out of danger, and is making steady progress towards recovery. It will, however, be a matter of some weeks before he is able to resume his ordinary duties.

Mr H. L. Paterson returned to Dunedin from Wellington by the north express yesterday afternoon. Mr J. Christie, Warepa, returned south by the express yesterday afternoon from a visit to Wellington. Mr R. F. Black, assistant locomotive engineer, returned to Christchurch yesterdaiir P. Bullock, judge of singing at the Dunedin Competitions, left on his return to Christchurch yesterday. Mr J. W. Bailey, who was elocution judge at the Dunedin Competitions, left yesterday morning for Christchurch. A Press Association cable message from Ottawa states that. Macpherson, who has held the position of manager of the Port Chalmers Gasworks for six years, has been appointed manager of the Marton Gasworks. He will take up his new duties about the end of September. . . Mr R. J. C. M'Nab. the new principal of John M'Glashan College, accompanied by Mrs M'Nab, arrived in Dunedin by the express yesterday afternoon, and was welcomed at the Station by Mr P. C. Ross, chairman of the Board of Governors, Mr J. A. Dunning, acting principal, and members of the board and staff. Mr and Mrs M'Nab will be the guests of Mr Ross for a few days. Last evening at the warehouse of Messrs Bing, Harris, and Co., Ltd., a presentation was made to Miss I • &■ Macßae, who is severing her. long connection with the company in view of her approaching marriage. Mr Portman, making the presentation of a chiming clock on behalf of the staff, referred to Miss Macßae’s many good qualities, and wished her every happiness and prosperity, assuring her that her. valued services would be greatly missed in the office. Miss Macßae thanked her fellowemployees for their pood wishes ana the gift that accompanied them.
