AVIATION

THE LOCKHEED PLANE CERTIFICATE NOT ISSUED WASHINGTON, August 27. -If is understood that there is some possibility -that ' Sir Kingsford Smiths Lockheed, plane; may not be admitted to England because the Department of Commerce here has not -yet granted certification of inspection. The department; in response to representations by the Australian authoriti.es, sought data from the Lockheed factory, but this has .hitherto not been forthcoming. There is* some fear that the department may contend-that it cannot issue a certificate for an aeroplane which it, has not seen and which was shipped from the country before it could inspect it for details 6n j which admittance into England apparently depends. Every effort is being made to straighten the matter out. ; CENTENARY RACE : : THE ITALIAN ENTRY • ROME, August 2S. : .
