Everything has been done to make sailors feel “ at home ” in the Church of St. Barbara, Whale Island, Portsmouth Harbour, which lately was. dedicated by Dr Lovett, Bishop of Portsmouth. The building has been converted from an ammunition store into a church by shipwrights of H.M.S. Excellent and H.M.S. Sultan. The floor has been laid out bn the lines of a, caulked deck, the roof also has a caulked appearance, and above the altar hangs a lamp. On the altar frontal is embroidered the shin of Christ, with the words: “So He bringeth them into the haven where they would be.” The altar cross is a memorial to Rear-admiral the Hon. Horace Hood, who was killed at the Battle of Jutland.
