ST. KILDA LIFE SAVING CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING Tlie fourth annual meeting of the St. Kilda Life Saving Club was held in the St. Kilda Bathing Pavilion last ingin the absence of the president (Mr J. Beattie), Mr A. Idour presided over a fair attendance of members. The annual report stated that it was gratifying to know that the club could show a credit balance despite the liability of obtaining new bathing suits, a new reel and the cost of overhauling the other one. Credit for the success of the- club was due to the loyal support of the president (Mr J. Beattie), the patron (Mr M. Idour) and the vicepresidents (Messrs J. W. Dove, G. Garbutt and T. Wheelwright). It was essential that members and all other persons interested in life saving should bo present on every occasion that they were at liberty to be so during the coming season. The work of the club last season was carried out efficiently, and special mention was made of the gallant effort made by Messrs E. Baker and V. Sturgeon to save the life of a young girl in a heavy surf. The child had been brought to the shore after a strenuous struggle, but it had been found that life was extinct. The team that journeyed to Invercargill to take part in the surf championship competitions, although unsuccessful, had proved to be a credit to the club. No doubt the experience gained would prove to be of value during the coming season. A water polo team had been started, and had *lone exceptionally well for the first season in that branch of swimming. Interclub competition had also been inelhded and many memebrs had had the honour of winning one or two events. Taking everything into consideration, everyone would admit that the club was a credit to its members and to the borough of St. Kilda. Moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet, the chairman said that the affairs of the club had been carried out, in a manner that reflected nothing but credit on the members, and if the same interest was maintained during the ensuing year and public support was forthcoming the club could look forward to a very successful season.
