FAMOUS GROUND SAVED
For years the subject of alternate hopes and fears, the Foundling site, at Bloomsbury, London, has now been saved as an open space for all time._ The announcement that the famous piece of ground had been secured, to remain unspoiled by the commercial builder, a playground and health centre for thousands of children in surrounding districts, was lately made by the Appeal Council, of which the Marquis of Crewe is president.
It was stated that the governors of the Foundling Hospital have decided to purchase for £IOO,OOO the extreme northern area of their old ground, with the buildings in which the infant welfare work is carried on. The public, it was added, have subscribed about £15,000 toward an appeal launched by Mr Baldwin for obtaining £IBO,OOO to complete the purchase. Another £30,000 is being contributed by Sir Harry Mnllaby-Deeley, owner of the Foundling Estate. A statement issued on behalf of the London County Council indicates that the body will grant a sum to complete the purchase of the site and lay it out. This sum is not to exceed £50,000.
