OTAGO CENTRE MEETING A meeting of the Otago Swimming Centre was held last night and was attended by the president (Mr W. A. Jenkins), Messrs E. G. James, D. C. Bannatyne, D. Thomson, R. Baker, W. Williams, I. Laing, D. Pickard, M. Taylor, B. Kerr, E. C. Isaacs, R. C. Stackhouse, D. Colvin. The chairman said that the New Zealand Council had lost a valuable member through the death of Mr D. Coulter, o£ Christchurch. He had been a great friend to swimmers by his generosity. A motion of condolence with Mr Coulter's relatives was carried. The proposed itinerary of the Australian team during its New Zealand tour was discussed. It was decided that the centres which participated in the tour be asked to contribute an extra £2 for one appearance and £3 for two appearances of the Australian swimmers. It was also decided that the itinerary be approved and that the New Zealand Council be asked to issue the invitation to the Australian swimmers through the Australian Amateur Swimming Union of Australia. The secretary was instructed to again write to the New Zealand Council requesting that the Otago record certificates be forwarded as early as possible. The question of improving the seating accommodation at the Municipal Baths and the club rooms was mentioned by the chairman and several delegates. The secretary said he had not received a reply from the council as a result of the request placed before it by a deputation from the centre. —Mr Thomson said it was time something was done, and it would have to be done within the next few weeks. He moved that the secretary be instructed to write to the town clerk and ask, in view of the request made by the deputation to the City Council from the centre, if any decision had been arrived at in connection with improving the seating accommodation at the baths and club rooms.
