EXPENDITURE IN MORNINGTON

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir,—l do'not know who is responsible for the waste of money on a footpath in Hawthorne avenue, Mornington, on the righthand side going up. That tide of tba road is never used and as far as Lean see never will:be. As Havelbek and Mailer streets are the keystone to Mornington, would it not be a fitting move on the part of.the City Council to purchase, say, the width of the present footpath from ; all the residents on the .righthand side of Hawthorne avenue and widen the street. The traffic, especially vehicular, that one, meets in Havelock street, is surr prising. There is an old building that could oe purchased next the. council .'section, and the street could be widened from the corner of Lawrence street and continued up Havelock street. This may seem a big. undertaking, but I am sure it would be' a great improvement and be of benefit to the place, as many motorists would rather go this way to keep clear of the bus. As there is still'much unemployment, this work could be done by men who' are not eligible for camp, and the money would, be well spent since a decided improvement Would be the result.-*— I am, etc., -■• .-■■',• i .'■■'.?,. Keep Pace With the Times.
