TROTTING NOTES

By Sentinel. , Princess Onyx showed patches of speed at Greymouth, but is still green when acting in public. Dundee failed to connect with the ri«ht end of a purse at Greymouth, but may shape a lot better on a bigger track.

According to Australian journals, there is every prospect of the trotting clubs in New South Wales adopting the .New Zealand system of handicapping. Sea Peter, who won at- Waimate, is four years old by Peter Moko and another missing in the Stud Book.

King Craft has shown good turns of speed this season and may find a concession of 12 yards sufficient to pi ace him amongst the money.

' There was support for the Wrack filly Epilogue at Timaru, but she failed to get amongst the money. Money generally suggests that it does not find its way to the totalisator without reajwn. Graes tracks, when the going is on the heavy side, does not suit young pacers, and they, frequently break up when produced 'under such circumstances. A well-bred filly in Marie Potts was amongst the starters at Timaru on Saturday last. She is a three-year-old by Jack Potts—Mirie Dillon by,'Harold Dillon—Miramar by Wildwood —Wild Wave by Viking-—Linton by Bundoora. The Cathedral Chimes filly Shaudon Chimes, who is a half-sister to Terence Dillon, was elected second favourite in the Washdyke Trot, but Gamble and Adsum both beat her. Nothing had a chance with Gamble,, who lost all his handicap and then won comfortably.

Wink Eye was sent out a good favourite for the Trial Handicap at Greymouth on Saturday, but she stopped badly when appearing to have a good chance. She began smartly, and the .racing experience she has had will do her a lot of good. She looks and goes as if she will win faces.

The pacing stallion Royal Drusus is now a member of Mr C. P. Cameron's team at Santa Rosa Farm. Royal Drusus -iwas, trained at Addington by J, J. Kennerley, who was very successful with the son of Drusus. Royal Drusus has been nominated for the August meeting at Addington. : ~.-•' . ■ ' ' '-■' ; "

Princess Ann, the dam of the. Jack Potts colt Gamble, was imported from' the United States by the late- 'Messrs D. Young and' W; J. Blake; who raced in. partnership., Her previous foa.ls wereTe Kinga, Royal Chenault, : -Nbblemaii,.-and, a colt to" Brigand, and last year she produced a. colt to Frank Worthy. Princess Ann was foaled in 1919 and her colt to Jack Potts promises to develop into a high-class three-year-old. True to his breed, Don Wrack thrives on racing, and the two contests he had at Greymouth on Wednesday sharpened him up for Saturday's event, which ;he won in good style. After a good beginning, he drifted in the early stages of the race to be back in sixth place, with four furlongs to go. He made up some ground going along the back straight, and, sustaining his run, he came down the straight to outclass his field, aud win, going away from his opponents. Don Wrack is a brother to Wrecker, and will make a useful horse later on.. He is trained at New Brighton by W. Warren. OTAGO HUNT CLUB ' A qualification run will be held by the Otago Hunt Club to-morrow afternoon at Wakari over the properties of Messrs.W. Brinsdon and A. M'Leod. Owners wishing to qualify their horses for hunters' events are advised to have them on the, grounds. Followers will meet on Mr M'Leod's property at 2 p.m. sharp.
