RETURNED SOLDIERS The card tournaments held by the Port Chalmers Returned Soldiers' Committee every Saturday night continue to be well patronised. The prize-winners at last Saturday's tournament were—Mesdames 11. Buck 1, J. Keeuan 2 (ladies' section), and Messrs C. Thorn 1, and J. Pope 2 (men's section). As a result of the success that has attended the tournaments, the committee has been able to distribute 60 bags of coal among the families of unemployed returned soldiers. LOCAL SHIPBUILDING Good progress is being made with the building of two large launches by Messrs Miller and Tunnage. The pleasure launch under construction for a Christeburch yachtsman will, when completed, be a very fine vessel. The work has been advanced to the stage where the decks will soon be laid clown, and the boat should be completed towards the end of August. She is 04 feet overall, with, a beam of 13 feet, and is the largest built at Port Chalmers for many yeai-B. The largest pleasure launch built by Messrs Miller and Tunnage was the Moturati in 1908. She has a length of CO feet? This boat was employed for some time carrying passengers between Henley and Taicri Mouth. She was later purchased by a Lyttelton linn and is now employed carrying passengers between Corsair Bay, Diamond Harbour, and Lyttelton. The fishing launch which is beina built for Mr C. M'Donald, of Sawyers' Bay, has been planked, and will be launched in about three months' time. She has a length overall of 39 feet, with a beam of 10 feet, and a draught of 3 feet 9 inches. She has been designed as a " double-end "' craft, will have a self-emptying cockpit, and be fitted with a 20 h.p. double cylinder Diesel engine. The new boat, which will be used for line fishing off' the Heads, is the first to be built for a local fisherman for about 12 mouths.
