ASTRONOMICAL NOTES FOR AUGUST

THE SUN. . x The sum's path during the month oC August will be through the constellations of Cancer and Leo, in R.A. from 8,4J.53 to 10.24.30, in north declination from 18.1 0.41 to 8.59.1, and in longitude from 125.2.49 to 156.53.22. An annular eclipse of the sun occurs on the 10th. This will not be visible in Now Zealand, but will be seen in South Africa. THE MOON. The phases of the moon will be as under:— i Last quarter .. 2nd 5.57 p.m. New moon ..' 10th 8.16 p.m. First quarter .. 18th 4.3 p.m. Full moon .. 25th 7.7 a.m. Apogee ....... 9th 8.42.a.m. Perigee .. 24th 7.18 a.m. THE PLANETS. Mercury will be in P.A. from 7.19.37 to 10153.50 and in north declination from 20.20.53 to 8.43.59. Jt will be in conjunction with the moon ou the Bth, in superior conjunction with the sun on the 26th, and ill conjunction with Neptune on the 31st. Venus will be in R.A. from 6.42.46 to 9.15.59 and in north declination from 22.23.35 to 16.42.58. It will be in conjunction with Mars on the 2nd and in conjunction with the moon on the 7th. Mars will be in R.A. from 6.47.6 to 8.10.46 and in north declination from 23.41.'2G to 21.3.6. It will be in conjunction with the moon on the 7th. Jupiter will be in R.A. from 13.4.14 to 13.21.53 and in south declination irflm 5.33.23 to 7.26.33. It will be in conjunction with the moon on the 15th. ' Saturn will be in R.A. from 21.55.23 to 21.46.50 and iu south declination from 14.10.4,t0 14.57.8. It will be in opposition to the sun. on the 18th and in' conjunction with the inoou ou the 24th. Uranus will be in conjunction with' the moon on the Ist and on the 29th. Neptune will be in conjunction with the moon on the 12tb.
