The Hampden branch of the W.D.F.U. met on Thursday last. The roll call was "One Shilling Spent to the Best Advantage." A member gave a demonstration on "The Making of Girdle Scones." Mrs Hayes and Miss Hay were hostesses.
The Ettriek branch met last Wednesday for a " bring and buy" sale and a demonstration of . " Icing a Birthday Cake," given by Mrs V. Norman. A oneact play' was rehearsed. The hostesses were Mrs Todd and Mrs Thompson.
The Pahnerston branch met in the Athenaeum on Friday, Mrs Wedge presiding. Impromptu speeches were given. The competition, "Making a hat with a sheet of paper and seven pins," was won by Miss Twaddle. -r v ''• The Owaka branch met in the Courtroom Memorial Hall, Owaka, on Thursday. Mrs Wright presided. Mrs Rae gave a demonstration on first aid, Miss Daphne Garrick acting as the patient. Answers to impromptu questions were given. The roll call was a thrift hint. Mesdanieg Craigie and Holland were hostesses.
The Hillend branch met in the hall on Wednesday. The president (Mrs A. T. Stewart) presided. Members each brought a parcel valued at Is, these being sold to defray expenses in connection with the cartage of Home Science boxes. Mrs A. T. Stewart was the winner of a woolwork shopping bag, the gift of Mrs W. Craig, Awamangu. The hostesses were Mesdames Bishop and Haggitt.
