CHARGE OF NEGLIGENCE
CAR STRIKES PEDESTRIANS. (Per United Press association.) WELLINGTON, July 80. An accident on Jervois quay, Wellington, on the evening of May 12 last in which three members of the crew of the steamer Mahia were struck from behLid by a passing motor car had its sequel in thoflSupreme Court to-day when Cyril Farquhar Chapman, a clerk, aged 33, stood his trial before a judge and jary on a charge of negligent driving, thereby causing injuries to two of the pedestrians. The allegation of the Crown was that Chapman either was not keeping a proper look-out or had had so maeh liquor prior to the accident that he was not controlling the car in a proper manner. The case, which was heard befora Mr Justice Blair, was unfinished wbi'n the adjournment was taken and will be resumed to-morrow morning.
