OTAGO HUNT CLUB MEET AT" SEA VIEW A successful and enjoyable hunt was held by the Otago Hunt Club on .Saturday afternoon at “ Sea View',” Corstorphine, in fine but cold weather over , the properties of Messrs W. Clarke, J. Day, N. Hansen. A,; Sim, and R- Sim.. A attendance of followers was again present, and on account of the hunt being .held so \ close to town there was. a good attendance of spectators, who obtained a splendid view of most of the jumps from one of 1 Mr R. Sim’s paddocks. The. followers met at'the Town Hall at 1.45' p.m., and after a moving picture had', been taken proceeded to the'hunting grounds: by ■ way of Caversham and’ Corstorphine, being joined on, the way by many other followers, and arriving about 3 , p.m. The trail having been, laid, the pack was sent away shortly after 3 p.m., and, picking up the scent quickly ana working .well, set the large field off at a merry pace. Start-r ing off in Mr Clark’s property, three post-and-rail jumps along the sea coast were the first to'bc negotiated. The next was a gorse hedge, which brought, the followers into Mr Day’s property, in the vicinity of Green Island Bush. From there the trail brought, the followers to a nost-and-rail jump at the top of the hill. They then had a good gallop across country, coming on towards the St. Clair golf links. A post-and-rail at the rear of Mr Day’s house was then negotiated. The next jump was a gorse hedge, which was well cleared by all. This was followed by a post-and-rail, bringing the followers into Mr Hansen’s property. Coming out of this property on to Blackhead road the hounds were checked to allow the tail-enders to catch up with the field. Coming into Mr A. Sim’s property the first jump was a post-and-rail near the road. This was followed by two good gorse hedges in the paddock where the spectators were gathered. At the second of these the huntsman had a tip-out. but, although dazed, was not seriously hurt. This mishap held up the field for a short period, but Mr Bert Hastie mounted the huntsman’s horse and completed the hunt. After jumping. a second gorse hedge a sharp turn to the right was taken to jump a post-and-rail, bringing the followers into Mr R. Sim’s property, where four gorse hedges were cleared in good style, the “ kill ” taking place in a paddock not far from the golf links. Miss D. Mowat, riding her new hunter, Dolly Varden. who inmner exceptionally well, gained the brush for the first lady in at the “kill.” The hunt was one of the longest held this season being over four miles of good hunting country, with 16 jumps, and considering the heavy state of the going the jumping was very good. There wore numerous falls during the hunt, but, fortunately, neither riders nor horses received injury. The following horses were out qualifying for coming hunters’ races:— Johnnie Walker, B-roadficld, Kern, Rag Tag. Te Meaui, Jaunt, and Motnkarara. The last-m°ntioned. which is owned by Mr James Lindsay, and is a full brother to Willow Glen, is the fastest jumper seen at a hunt for some years, and should do well in hunters’ races. At the conclusion of the hunt those present were entertained at afternoon tea as the guests of Messrs J. R. Brown (committeeman) and R. Sim. Before proceeding homeward. the master (Mr J. E. Brnntonl briefly thanked the owners for the use of their properties and, also Messrs Brown and Sim for their hospitality. He also congratulated Miss Mowat on securing the brush.
