FLETCHER CUP COMPETITION IN INTERESTING STATE In three of the four matches played on Saturday in the Fletcher Cup Competition the results occasioned no little surprise, and the ultimate winner of the premiership is still in doubt with two more matches to play to complete the scries. Mosgicl held Seaclilf to a draw, and the loss of a point to the latter reduces its lead to one point over Technical, which defeated High School Old Boys. By its unexpected win against Northern, Roslyn-Wakavi has moved up from the bottom position on the table. The games resulted: — Seacliff . . 2 Mosgiel . . 2 Technical .. 6 H.S. TECHNICAL v. HIGH SCHOOL OLD BOYS Technical and High School met on the Caledonian Ground, which Mas in better condition than the previous M’eek. High School failed to play up to form except in the last 10 minutes and Tecunical, which had the advantage throughout, fully deserved its win. The teams were:— High School.—Smith, Sutherland, I‘ickerill, Beal, Chapman, Bringans, C. Latimer. Komeril, Duncan, Groves, Grant. Technical. —Tointon, Pilling, Cope, Groves, Patton, Wilkinson, Ives, Witchall, Addison, Jones, Skinner. School kicked off, facing the Mind, and from the opening attack llomeril shot outside from Grant’s centre. Ives and Witchall M'erc repulsed in front of School’s goal. Latimer taking play down the right Mith a pass from llomeril. Tointon saved and Cope cleared from Groves. Sutherland missed badly M’hen Ives crossed to Skinner, but the Monger sent outside. A tine clearance by Pilling was sent to the right, and Iveg and Witchall bustled through the defence to beat Smith with a close shot. Technical I, School nil. Technical kept School on the defensive, Skinner missing a further chance, and Bringans made a timely save M’hen Pickerill mishcaded a high ball. School’s attacking movements failed through M’calf placing and Technical returning play on the left. Skinner crossed a tine ball, Witchall turning to-M-ards goal. Smith brought off a good save by conceding a resultless corner. Bringans put School in position, and llomeril shot strongly, Tointon’s clearance going to Grant, mlio netted with a rising shot. One all. From the restart Technical showed dash. Ives centring. .Jones slipped the backs to beat Smith with a low shot. Technical 2, School 1. School M’ere playing without cohesion, and following a goal kick Witchall and Ives returned play to School’s goal, where Addison received and scored. Technical 3. School 1.. Despite the play of Chapman, the Technical halves, M’ith Groves outstanding, M’ere holding the School forwards, but a determined attack saw Tointon save from Grant, and a return shot by Duncan being missed by Cope, Latimer cut in from the right to heat the goalie. Technical 3, School 2. Cope cleared from Latimer, and Patton sent out to Skinner. Addison missing a chance from a good centre. Technical continued to hold the advantage in attack. Wilkinson placed to Skinner, who dropped to goal, where a header by Addison skimmed the bar. School were hard pressed when Skinner, following a pass by Groves, sent a high ball to goal. Witchall. connecting, tested Smith without avail, and half time was called with Technical still on attack.

After a period of uninteresting play Chapman sent up to Groves, who was blocked, but Latimer and Romeril combined and a clearance going to Duncan, Tointou was lucky to save a snap shot by conceding a resultless corner. School were again unfortunate when Groves was pulled up for a doubtful offside, and Technical went through from the goal kick, Witchall being tripped by Sutherland in front of goal. Skinner took the penalty kick. Smith partially stopped a hard drive, and Skinner ran in to place into the net. Technical 4, School 2. ' Shortly afterwards Technical were awarded a free kick outside the penalty area, Patton placing to goal, where Witchall smartly cut in to score. Technical 5, School 2. Old Boys now livened up, Chapman sending play to Grant, the winger's cross going to Romeril, who passed to Latimer. Tointou partially saved when Latimer 'ran in to score. Technical 5, School 3. Technical were now being held on defence, and. from a free kick against Jones for jumping Bringaus goaled, the score being disallowed because of an infringement ot a defender. His second kick failed, but in a further advance Duncan was fouled and Chapman scored with a tine drive. Technical 5, Old Boys 4. There was now only four minutes to time and play was lively. Pickeril! stemmed a Technical advance, and School were awarded a freo kick for handling. Groves received from the kick hut was interfered with, the backs clearing. School came through stronglv, Duncan just missing with a great drive. Groves displayed cleverness hi sending Skinner way, the winger placing well to Pilling. Smith cleared a hard drive, and School returned, Chapman shooting over. From a throw-in in Technical’s area Skinner went down the lino and. beating Sutherland, crossed tor Witchall to score the final goal, the game ending immediately afterwards with the result: Technical 0 S oll , l *- i High School Old Boys 4 goals. SEACLIFF Mosgiel sprang a surprise by sharing the points with Seacliff at Queens lark, Mosaic!, and came very near to lowering the Teague leader’s colours, Skinner missin„ w ith a penalty kick five minutes before time. Seacliff kicked off and immediately went to attack, clever interpassiug between Warnock and Baillie ending in the former shooting over. At the other end Skinner shot behind when in a good position Simmonds opened up play to Baillie. who was well stopped by Dodds eouceiiiii'r a coiner, which was cleared, a similar movement by the same players end in- in the same way. Seacliff was bavin- more of the game, and treated the spectators to some fine passing movements, but did not appear to lake the opposition seriously. Mosgiel took some time to settle down, Rodgers making some nice openings lor Nicholson, but (be winger was slow in getting the ball across. Hector set his forwards moving Simmons receiving and sending on to Hooper, who just missed. A moment later Watson shook the upright with a strong shot. R. Steven cleared, the ball going up to Rodgers, who placed nicely to G. Steven, but the Mosgiel centre shot behind. A tine movement in which the ball travelled from Baillie to O’Rorke. to Hooper, to Milne, saw M’Doii-all make a Hue save from the last-named. At the other end a lon- shot by Skinner was spoilt by lay *Stevcu getting offside. Stenhouse was

giving Baillie too much latitude, with the result that when the Seacliff winger received a long pass by Watson he made a fine run down the line before sending across a perfect centre, which Hooper connected with to give Al'Dougall no chance. Seacliff’ 1, Mosgiel nil. A moment later Seacliff went close to scoring again when Watson made play to Baillie. The winger shot, and a corner resulted, Milne sending over a nice cross. Hooper got his head to it, but M'Dougall brought off a brilliant save. Play was now very fast, Mosgiel showing out better. Rodgers went close with a strong shot, and a fine movement by Carr, Rodgers, and Nicholson saw the last-named send behind. At the other end M'Dougall saved a long shot by Waruoek. Carr sent Skinner away, and the winger just missed, and from another shot by the same player Jordan saved, well. With the goal-keeper on the ground and G. Steven and Rodgers ou lop of him, Nicholson shot behind. It was a lucky escape for Seacliff. After M'Dougall had saved a strong shot from Milne, Rodgers sent Nicholson away, the winger sending over to Skinner, who shot over, and another movement by these players saw Skinner pass to G. Steven. The centre drove hard, the ball cannoning off Rogers, the Seacliff full-back, into the net; Seacliff I, Mosgiel I. Just before half time O’Rorkc just missed from a pass by Hooper. On the resumption War nock made a fine run before sending to Hooper, to Simmons. who sent in a hard shot, from the corner the same player just missed with a shot. Hector, who had played well throughout, stopped Skinner, and sent Milne away, the winger forcing a corner. A free kick brought relief to Mosgiel. R. Steven sent the ball well clown to Skinner, who crossed a fine ball for G. Steven to bead through. Mosgiel 2, Seacliff 1. Seacliff now set up a hot attack on the Mosgiel goal, Dodds stopping a dangerous movement, aud a little later M'Dougall brought off a great save when he left his goal and just got his hand to a hard shot from Hooper. The Mosgiel goalie also saved well a long shot by Watson. while at the other end Jordan made a fine save from a cross shot by Nicholson. A free kick to Seacliff had Mosgiel in trouble, O’Rorke sending over to Milne, who sent in a hot shot which M'Dougall did well to save. From a scramble in the Mosgiel goal R. Steven handled, and from the penalty kick Watson gave M'Dougall no chance. Mosgiel 2. Seacliff 2. From the kick off Seacliff had a great chance of leading, but Hooper headed over a shot by Watson. O’Korke was penalised for tripping Rodgers just outside the penalty area, and R. Steven,' who took the kick, sent in a hard drive which Rogers (the Seacliff full-back) handled. From the spot kick Skinner bit the crossbar and foolishly played the rebound, thus giving relief to Seacliff. Alos"iel came back again, and Rodgers tested Jordan. Then Seacliff made desperate efforts to obtain the lead, Simmonds sending to Hooper, to Milne, who went close, ns did Baillie. who was being closely watched by Stenhousc. Warnock put in a fine run before sending to Milne, but the winger's shot went behind. Then at the other end Seacliff was penalised just outside the penalty area, Jordan bringing off a great save from a high drive by Skinner. With only two minutes left. Smith was the referee. ROSLYN-WAKARI v. NORTHERN Playing at the Gardens, Roslyu-Wakari kicked off with Northern facing a slight breeze. M'Hugh cleared the opening movement, sending Cullen away, the winger shooting past. Roslyn advanced, gaining an abortive corner, but a further corner followed, which Munsie placed nicely for Scott to bead a beautiful goal. Roelyn 1, Northern nil. Ramage (Roslyn) and Ruddiman (Northern) were sound on defence, but Oliver put in a strong shot which hit the bar and Munsie headed for Jones to clear. Peart led a Northern attack. Ramage clearing, but Coats returned to Little, who tested Harbornc without success, Roslyn kept Coats and Wallace busy defending, and from a thrown in, Oliver opened out to Lennon on th’e wing. Munsie connected with the winger’s cross, aud scored a fine goal. Roslyn 2, Northern nil. Northern attacked from the restart, Havborne saving from Cullen and again from Peart. Northern were awarded a penalty, Coats’s kick going straight to Harborne, who saved. Peart failed to score with a header following a free kick, and M'Callion, Munro, and Rutherford combined and took play to Northern's end,‘Jones finally relieving by saving from Lennon and Oliver. Offside plav by Little spoilt a good movement, and Ramage returned upfield. Coats dallied with the ball, to be beaten by Munro, play going to Rutherford and Oliver, the last-named beating Jones with a rising shot. Roslyn 3, Northern ail. Connolly spoilt a Northern advance by kicking over, but the Black and Whites returned play, forcing a corner, from which Peart headed past Harborne. Roslyn 3, Northern 1. Half time followed shortly after, with Roslyn having had the better of the sjiell. On resumption, Munsie missed a chance with only Jones to beat, Peart doing similarly at the other end. Wallace cleared "a likely advance from the hill team and exciting play followed with Northern attacking desperately, but the forwards’ shooting was erratic and witn Harborne, Copland, and Ramage defending well no score resulted. Scott relieved by sending Munsie away, and Munro’s shot was cleared by Jones. Again Munsie put Roslyn in position by opening out to Oliver, but Jones was safe and good defence was displayed by both teams in hard up-and-down play. A corner to Northern was headed clear by Ramage, and Coats went close with a hard drive. Peart was injured at this stage and went off, Coats coming up to the forwards. A free kick to Northern was received by Coats, who passed on to Henderson, the latter player kicking wildly over the bar from close in. In Use closing stages Munsie struck the bar with a good drive, Jones clearing from the rebound, but Roslyn again pressed, Scott opening out to Munro, who crossed for Munsie to beat Jones. MORNINGTON lu the game between Maori Hill and Mornington, played at Prospect Park, Maori Hill kicked off and the play was fairly even for some time. Then Moon connected with a centre to open the score. Mornington I, Maori Hill nil. Less than a minute later the Reds had equalised, Evans finding the net. Mornington 1, Maori Hill 1. in subsequent play both sides were dangerous with combined movements, which were repelled by sound defence.
