In the last quarter of last year the birth rate of England and Wales * eIJ to lose than 13 per 1000 of the living. This meant that 129.925 children were burn in three months. In the same time there were 122,097 deaths, so that the population increased by only 7828! In the complete year 1933 the birth rate was 14.4, the lowest on record. Last year the increase of population—the surplus of births over deaths —was only 84,300. In a few years’ time there will be 1,000,000 fewer children in British schools.
