DUNEDIN NORTH AND LEITH The’ monthly • committee meeting of the Dunedin North ■ and Leith Amenities Society was held on. Tuesday last, when there were present Messrs C. A. W ilsoa (in. the chair), C. C. Rawlinsou, G. M ilson, Rowley, B. R. Ferguson, MTarlane, and Gray. . ■ A -letter -was received from the town, clerk stating that the '.planting of native trees and shrubs on the hillside bad been approved and asking the society for £lO towards the cost of' trees.—lt was decided to-reply that owing to lack of-funds it was impossible to pay more than,£s. The telegraph engineer, writing with reference to the proposed shifting of the slot telephone at Woodhaugh bridge to a place further from the river, stating that it had been decided to place it at the opposite corner of Malvern street. —The secretary reported that he understood some of the residents had interviewed the telegraph engineer with a view to having it placed in a more central position. A letter from the Engineer’s Department stated that the estimated cost of tar sealing Howe street was £132, and that it had not been found possible to obtain an allocation for the current year. —Received.

The matter of having lights put in Woodhaugh road. King street, aud Castle street from Howe street had been brought before the chairman of the Works Committee’of the Dunedin City Council (Cr J. J. Marlow), who stated that there was difficulty in getting more lighting owing to lack of finance.—Mr Henderson reported that he had been well received in his canvass for new members, and had already enrolled nearly 200. It was decided to hold the annual meeting of the society in August.
