Mr James Begg was a passenger by yesterday’s express for the north, en route to Wellington. Mr H. A. B. Brabant returned to Dunedin yesterday morning from a business visit to Invercargill. Mr D. S. A Press Association cable message from Los Angeles states that Mr Bernt Balchen sailed on Wednesday in the liner Monterey for Auckland, to join Mr Lincoln Ellsworth for an exploratory aeroplane flight to Ross Sea, Antarctica. Reference was made by the president (Mr G. W. Watts) at a social evening conducted last night by the Otago Justices of the Peace Association to the death of Mr G. L. Denniston, who, he said, had been one of the early justices of the peace in Dunedin. Mr Watts also .referred to the death of Mrs Hannah Smith, the mother of a member of the association. Those present stood in silence for a moment as a mark of respect to the deceased.
