LEVEL CROSSING SMASH

VAN STRUCK BY TRAIN DRIVER SERIOUSLY INJURED. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND. July 26. As a result of a level crossing collision at Henderson to-night, the driver of a light motor van, P. Estich, a Dalmatian wine merchant, aged 45 years, married, suffered head injuries. The van, of which Estich was the sole occupant, was negotiating the crossing when it was struck by the Anckland-Henderson passenger train. The van became firmly attached to the front of the locomotive and was carried over 350 yards. Considerable difficulty was experienced in extricating the injured man from the cab of the van, and portion of the van had to be broken away. His condition is serious. The van was extensively damaged.
