THE ALL BUCKS
TOUR OF AUSTRALIA A SPECTACULAR FAREWELL (Peb United Press Association.) x WELLINGTON, July 26, A dense crowd lining the Queen’s wharf this afternoon gave a spectacular farewell to the All Blacks when they departed in the Maunganui for their Australian Rugby tour. Among the last shouts of advice and good wishes were exhortations to “ bring the Bledisloe Cup back with you.” Shortly before the departure of the team a send-off by the New Zealand Rugby Union was held on the wharf in one of the Harbour Board’s sheds. Mr S. S. Dean, chairman of the Management Committee of the union, who presided. said that the All Blacks’ mission was perhaps primarily one of goodwill toward Australia. This year was the jubilee of the New South Wales Union and he trusted the games would be most enjoyable and that the better team would win. On behalf of .the Wellington Union and local players and the football-loving public Mr W. Hornig, president of the union, wished the All Blacks a kiccessful tour. Following three cheers for the team and its manager (Mr A. J. Geddes) Mr Geddcs thanked the unions and other well-wishers for their farewell. “ We have a wonderful team with us,” he said, “ and we are going to make you all smile again by trying to preserve our unbeaten record and by bringing back the cup, but we must not forget that with their recent tour of South Africa the Waratahs also have a splendid record. They are going to be ha"d to beat, but this team hopes to emulale its Now Zealand predecessors with their high on-and-off-the-field traditions.” Before the members finally climbed up the gangway to clutch hundreds of streamers thrown to them, “ Captain Frank Kilby” and “Rusty” Page were called upon as spokesmen for the team's last replies 'and farewells.
