EDUCATION LEASES
PROVISION TO EXTEND TERM. (From Oob Parliament art Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Julv 26. Provision for an extension of the lease terms in respect of certain education reserves is contained in the Education Reserves Amendment Bill, which was introduced in the House of Representatives to-day and read a first time. The Bill, which extends the application of: section 2 of the Education Reserves Amendment Act of 1931, was explained by the Minister of Lands (Mr: E. A. Ransom), acting for the Minister of Education (Mr R. Masters). Section 2 of the 1931 Act made temporary provision for an extension, with the .approval of the Minister of Education, of the term for a period not exceeding five , years of the. lease of a . high school , reserve or other education reserve, or of any endowment of the University of New Zealand which was duo to expire at any time not later than December 31 of this year. ’ Having regard to the present unsettled conditions affecting a number of these properties it has been considered expedient to extend this date to December 31, 1936, to enable extensions of leases due to expire before that date to be granted where such a course is equitable. The same clause is to be further amended so as to provide the necessary machinery provisions to enable the certificates of extension to be registered in the office of the district- land registrar against the relative instruments of title.
