BOXING
HEAVY-WEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
(Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. Juno 20.
The professional heavy-weight boxing title of New Zealand was at stake this evening in a bout between V. Luttrell, Hastings (12.10), aud M. Strickland, Wellington (12.12). Luttrell was knocked out early in the ninth round. Ray Nicol, Invercargill, the holder of the title was to have fought Luttrell, but Nicol was unable to fight because of a boil on the arm, and voluntarily forfeited the title. It was a poor bout, and Luttrell lasted so long only because ho was very fit. In a professional feather-weight bout C. Elume, Wellington (8.8) beat P. Hawes, Christchurch (8.10) on points. It was a very even light. The title was not at stake.
