MILFORD ROAD
A GISBORNE COMPLAINT EXPENDITURE OPPOSED. (Per United Press Association.) GISBORNE, June 19. Adverse comment on the action of the Government in spending a large sum of money on a road to Milford .Sound, which would be used mostly for pleasure (notwithstanding that unemployment funds were to be utilised) was made at a nieetin,r of the Gisborne Chamber of Commerce to-day, and it. was suggested that a protest should be made to the Government. Speakers said it required £300,000 to puttheNapier-Wairoa line in order, but the Government was spending £250,000 on a road merely for a scenic route. After a discussion it was decided to write to the district members of Parliament asking them to place the needs ox the district before Parliament, with special emphasis on the requirements tor railway communication.
