BAFFLING CASE
MURDER OF OLD MAN SEARCH FOR A MOTIVE. SYDNEY, June 11. (Received June 11, at 9.50 p.m.) Detectives here are engaged, in a difficult case, the murder of John Ryan, aged 79, a retired farmer, who was found shot at Barry, in the Blayncy district. Ryau was found dead \in a sitting posture in an armchair in the isolated cottage where he lived by himself on his sons’ property. The detectives ascertained that Ryan was formerly a wealthy man. He sold a large portion of the property to lus two sons at a nominal figure, but the residue of the property disappeared by unaccountable meaus. Tills aspect is now engaging attention and may provide a motive for the crime. A bullet wound in Ryan’s head was disclosed, the shot having been fired at fairly close range, possibly while be was asleep in front of the fire.
