MYSTERIOUS DISAPPEARANCE INVESTIGATIONS IN PROGRESS. SHANGHAI, June 11. (Received June 11, at 7 p.m.) Considerable apprehension lias been caused by the mysterious disappearance of the Japanese vice-consul at Nanking, Mr Hideakira Kuramoto, last Friday night. Mr Kuramoto attended the Nanking railway station to say good-bye to the Japanese Minister .(Mr Ariyoshi), who was leaving for Shanghai, since when he has not been heard of. Three theories are advanced—suicide, murder and kidnapping. A Tokio message states that the Consul General (Mr Suma) has been instructed to investigate Mr Kuramoto’s disappearance. The foreign spokesman stated that he is now awaiting the outcome of Mr Suma’s and the Chinese inquiries. He added that Mr Kuramoto had been handling the negotiations with the Chinese along with the Japanese Minister at Nanking, and the conversations with the Nanking Government had been carried out in the most amicable manner.
