Edward Groker, Esq., Warden at Gabriel’s, reports the estimated population of this district at 1300, about 80 of whom arc miners; and further states:— “As indicating the desire to settle in the town of Lawrence, it may be mentioned that a site, having 24-feet frontage ha* been sold within the last week at £24, or £1 per foot frontage. -- The' sites have been leased at 10s per annum per frontage foot.” The population of the gold field area* is as follows: Waitahuna, including Waipori and, Woolshed, 1013, about 793 .of whom are miners.
