FRENCH SHIPPING
MILLIONS IN SUBSIDIES ADDITION CONTEMPLATED. LONDON, May ‘27. Nearly £2,000.000 more subsidy will be available annually to t French shipping if the Senate passes the'so-called Tasso Bill, already approved by the Chamber of Deputies (says the Paris correspondent of the Daily Mail). The Bill proposes a 3 per cent, increase in import duties on goods from all foreign countries. The Government already subsidises French shipping to the extent of £9.000.000 a year. The new money will be employed in recommissioning merchant ships at present laid up and building new vessels, with State participation in wages to seamen, thus reducing unemployment. , The premiums to shipping are based on gross tonnage and snced.
