AID OF THE CAMERA
USE BY YORKSHIRE POLICE EVIDENCE IN MOTOR CASES. LONDON, May 20. Yorkshire police are using a camera to obtain evidence of motoring offences. They contend that while the camera is not absolutely infallible, it will at least determine the position of the car at a given moment. An official of the Royal Automobile Club declares that motorists ought to welcome the innovation, as they previously have been convicted on the word of bystanders. The .camera provides particularly good evidence in cases of stupid and reckless driving, like overtaking on blind curves and hill crests. The association, however, formally disapproves of the scheme, declaring that photography is an expert science beyond the capabilities of the police, and that it may enable the police to persecute motorists. A photograph might seem evidence of a bad offence when the fault was merely slight and technical.
