HIS MAJESTY’S THEATRE
“ SALLY." The final performances of the bright and entertaining musical comedy “ Sally ” were given in Hie Majesty’s Theatre by the Dunedin Operatic Society on Saturday. Everything went with a swing from start to finish, and those engaged in the production took full advantage of the opportunities the piece presents for lilting musical effects, engaging dancing, and highly-humofous situations. Miss Daphne Murdoch gave a fine performance in the part of “ Sally,” to which her undoubted talents are particularly suited, and the role of her lover, Blair Farquhar, received a bright interpretation from Mr James Macfarlane. Mr Stan Lawson had the audience frequently in unrestrained laughter with his performance of Constantine, and Mr Clarence Paine and Miss Tui Northey achieved very effective characterisations as Otis and Rosie respectively. The other parts were all handled' efficiently by members of the company, while the ballets were a feature of the show, and the choruses also did their work well. The orchestra, under Mr James Clark, rendered valuable assistance throughout. At the close of the performance Mr W F. Sligo briefly thanked the audience for its patronage, and intimated that the receipts from the season of “ Sally ” had been greater than those of any of the society’s previous productions. He also thanked various members of the company for the assistance they had rendered in connection with the production.
