A chance meeting in a shell-hole during the retreat from Cambrai in March, 1918, has resulted in William Mintz. a former soldier in the Canadian army, receiving a legacy of £50,000 from a Scots oilicer whom he dragged to safety. Fear of a spook has kept a fire at the Waggon and Horses, an ancient inn at Saltersgate, England, burning continuously for 133 years. According to legend if the fire goes out the ghost of a departed landlord will spring from the grate.
