DUNEDIN COURSING CLUB

A meeting of enthusiasts with a view to reviving the sport of coursing in Dunedin was largely attended. Those present could see no reason why coursing should not be revived, and with that obiect in view the following office-beam s were elected: —Patron, Mr A. A. Paape; president, Mr B. S. Irwin; vice-presid-ents —Messrs A. Burrell, B. Burrell, L. M'Cormick, F. Dalziel, M. H. Dawson, G. Davis, J. Eraser, R. Greenslade, J. Gold, V. Jackson, C. O’Hara, E. Price, J. Mathieeon, J. Mitchell, J. H. Pearson, T. Richards, J. Richardson, W. Tomkmsoa, A. Stewart, A. Galloway, 0. R-Wise, and G. E. Withers; secretary, Mr T. M. Connors; treasurer, Mr H. F. Paytou; committee-Messrs B. S. Irwin, T. M. Connors. H. F. Payton, J. H. Pearson, W. Hensley, G. R. Marks, C, R. Johnston, and V. G. Holloway. Messrs W. Milker. R. Prebble, and C. R. Marks were elected life members. , , The secretary reported on the grounds, home, and fences on the plumpton, saying that they were in a bad state of repair, and estimated the amount of money needed to put them in first-class order for coursing. . , It was then decided, that a circular letter be sent by .the secretary to tne various sports bodies and sportsmen in the town who may be interested in the sport, seeking financial assistance. It was also decided that Mr A. Smith be appointed to follow up the letters, and collect all donations and subscriptions for the club. ‘ , The club has already received very generous support, and has decided to call tenders for the erection of a fence round the plumpton, this work to be commenced as soon as possible. . Mr J. Patrick s tender for mowing the grass on the plumpton has been accepted, and he will commence as soon as the weather permits. , , , . The secretary then introduced plans for a new home and new escapes, which will be erected as soon a s the fence is complete. This new home and escapes will eliminate hares being killed near the escapes, thus providing the hares with cverv chance of beating the dogs, and making the sport more fascinating than formerly. These plans have been forwarded to the National Coursing Club of England.
