UNBALANCED TRADE

AUSTRALIA AND AMERICA STATEMENT BY. MR.BRUCE. LOS ANGELES, May 20. Speaking at a luncheon as the guest of the Chamber of Commerce, Mr Bruce vigorously expounded Australia's policy el bartering trade for trade. Referring to the unbalanced trade between Australia and America, he said it was obviously impossible to continue the policies that followed the failure of the London Economic Conference. The only hope in future was for nations to arrange reciprocal trade treaties. I am going to Washington to meet the heads of the Administration, and I believe that it is possible to do something to improve our trade relations. For years you have been selling large quantities of goods to Australia and buying the smallest quantities from us. We could sell you many things you need, and we want to continue buying from you, but the trado cannot continue as one-sided as it is now."
