MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE The weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the Otago Football '. Association was held last night, Mr A. Sharp being in the chair. THE MOSGIEL DISPUTE. The secretary of the Mosgiel Club wrote objecting to a statement made by the chairman (Mr A. Sharp) at last week'*, meeting of the committee, when the matter of the dispute between the club and a referee was discussed. The letter stated that Mr Steven was sent as a delegate from the club. On the letter 'being read, the chairman remarked, " I consider this is a very paltry letter indeed. I asked Mr Steven when he came to the meeting last Monday whether lie had the full consent of his club. We had no written word from the secretary of the club saying that Mr Steven was attending as a deputation. We had to go on what he had told us nersonally on the previous Saturday, that he intended coming along to the meeting, which went to show that he was taking it on his own responsibility to attend. I made the statement, and stand by it." As to his (the chairman's) other statement that it was a personal matter between the president of the club and the referee, that was his own opinion, and he felt it was a correct one. He did not desire to withdraw it. —The letter was formally received. . DEFAULTING REFEREES. Complaints in regard to. the failure of referees to fulfil appointments were received from the Maori Hill and Celtic Clubs. Mr Miller, a member of the committee, also reported that the YM.C.A. team had played • four matches, and no official referee had attended. He said that in view of the various complaints received it looked as if the Third Grade were not being looked after. On the complaints being referred to the president of the Referees' Club he pointed out the difficulties confronting the club, owing to a shortage of members. Sometimes it happened that a referee was unable to fulfil his appointment, and he was at liberty to appoint another to act in his stead. This was done by_ arranging with a member of a team which was playing on the particular ground later on, and this player automatically took up the position of official referee. On the request of the chairman he promised to bring the matter before the members of the Referees' Club. A PROTEST. • A protest was received from, the Celtic Club in connection with ite Third Grade match against Roslyn-Wakari at Elfis Park on Saturday, the writer pointing out that as the official referee failed to appear a member of the Roslyn-Wakari Club officiated". Mr J... Simpson remarked that he presumed the referee who acted was agreed to by both captains, and his motion, that the club be written to pointing out that as the referee's decision was final the protest must be dismissed, was carried. It was also decided to refund the deposit fee. GENERAL. The Otago Hockey Association was granted the use of the Caledonian Ground for September 1 for the test .match between New Zealand and Australia. The Finance Committee reported that it had considered a suggestion from the Tramways Club to hold a carnival to raise funds and the meeting decided to call a meeting of all clubs to discuss the matter. An application for the transfer of A. Barclay from Technical to Y.M.C.A. was referred to the Transfer Committee. ■• The secretary of the Referees' Club wrote drawing attention to the late arrival of teams on the field, and the secretary was instructed to circularise the clubs, pointing out that teams must be ready to take the 'field on time.
