Tomlinson) presided over a; good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Oamaru Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals; He extended a welcome to the'new member-of the committee (Mr H.-fl. Williams). The chairman referred -to the resignation of Mr F. W. Pochin, who had been a ..valuable members °* tne committee, and had taken a keen interest in the-soeiety's activities. - . • The Federated Societies of New Zealand, advised that, the annual conference •would be held iuWellington on June 28, and .the (Miss C. Green), reported having, attended to four cases of dogs without proper .shelter; a horse worked with,.sore shoulders, and a.horse with a wound requiring veterinary attention. He also reported that a young pup had been sent in a loose dogbox from Blenheim, and had arrived in. a starving.condition. A circular was received -regarding the holiday on King's birthday, oh June 4, stating that men, who in the ordinary course of events on that day, would the usual relief pay without' working. NORTH OTAGO RUGBY UNION MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE The weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the North Otago Rugby Union was held' last night,'; the president (Mr A. A. Mays) occupying the chair. The chairman extended a welcome to Mr R. Young on his return to the Management Committee. Mr N. H. Colquhoun reported that he had interviewed Mr Adair, of the Labour Bureau, who would now issue unemployment concession tickets to all unemployed who were registered at the' bureau. The Waianakarua School Committee wrote thanking the union for a free school football.—Received. Mr W J. Wallace, the union's president delegate to the New Zealand Union, wrote acknowledging the union's congratulations on his appointment to the New Zealand Union.—Received. -' Mr G. B. Stevenson wrote thanking the iniion for appointing him selector of the North Otago representative teams. —RecGivcd. The Auckland Club forwarded entries of Awakino A and Awakino Band a Third Grade team in the seven-a-side tournament. —Received. The Waimate Sub-union wrote requesting a match against North Otap at Waimate this season.—Held over for a fortDl The Waitaki School Club advised that after due-consideration it was found inadvisable to enter any more teams, and regretted that the club could not enter another team in the, Fifth Grade. The cliib was, however, agreeable to enter a Fourth Grade team in the Fifth Grade if desired. It was decided to allow the present draw to remain. , The Excelsior Club forwarded the reasons for the application of A. Ml nee for a transfer from Georgetown to Excelsior, pointing out that MTh£e went to his home in Oamaru at noon on Saturday.returning to Peebles on Monday, morning. The clearance from Georgetown was forwarded.—The Transfer Committee declined to grapt the transfer, and referred £he matter to the Management Committee.—Mr Wvlde-Browne maintained that MThee's residence was tota'y different MThee's residence was totally different from last year.—Mr L. Ward said they had accepted a statement last week that pointed out that Georgetown had granted a clearance, but Mr J. Palmer submitted that a clearance from the club did not relieve the Management Committee of its responsibility. He said the Waitaki Subunion objected to the transfer, and handed in-a letter from the Georgetown Club objecting to the transfer.—The president said the rule gave the union the right to decide the question of domicile, and the Management Committee should decide whether M'Phee was domiciled in town or the country.—Mr Colquhoun pointed out that M'Phee was in town three night a week and four nights in the country; therefore he was domiciled in Peebles.— Mr J. Palmer gave as his opinion that M'Phee was domiciled in the country as last year, and it would be; no hardship for him to play for Georgetown.—Mr Wylde-Browne said the committee should be consistent, and having granted a transfer to Sullivan last year on the grounds that he was domiciled in Oamaru, should grant a transfer to M'Phee.—After considerable discussion, Mi" Ward moved and Mr Colquhoun seconded a motion that, seeing that he was four nights at Peebles, his domicile be ruled as , being in the country .—Mr Wylde-Browne moved as an amendment that the matter be referred to the Waitaki Sub-union for an opinion.-r Mr iR. Young seconded the amendment, which was lost on a show of hands, those voting for being Messrs Mays, WyldeBrowne, Marshall, and Young. The motion was carried by seyeu votes to four. The treasurer reported that a sum of money had been found at the Show Grounds, and handed to. the secretary. Mr R. Young was appointed to fill the vacancy on the Transfer Committee. PERSONAL .• Miss Edith Lloyd, Reed street, Oamaru, has left the employ of Mr James M'Diarmid, boot manufacturer, Oamaru, tb take up a similar position •at Ashburton. Miss Lloyd had beeti in Mr M'Diarmid's employ for five years, and will-leave Oamaru for Ashburton on Saturday next. -.-, Mr G. M. Miller, who has been employed for some years by Mr Henry Hay, accountant,'Oamaru, will leave on Saturday next to take up a position in a sharebroker's firm at Christchurch. Mr Miller has been a prominent member of St; Paul's Church organisations, and a well-known soloist at church services and socials. He was for some time secretary of the, Oamaru Swimming Club, and a prominent member of the Oamaru Harriers Club. '.-'■■ Queen's Hotel.—Mrs V. Porritt (Rochdale, England), Mr R. Coles, Mrs Brierley (Timaru), Mr R. M. Smeaton (Mosgiel), Mr R. M'Gregor (I'nvercargill). ._ . The funeral on Saturday of Mr James Goodall was one of the largest seen in Oamaru for some years. The service was conducted by the Rev. Walter M'Lenn,' and over 70 wreaths were placed on the graveside. At the time of his death '• he was emploved at the Pukenri Freezing Works, and he was very popular among his mates. He was of a quiet disposition, and had a wide circle of friends. ■ ■'■■ . DRUIDISM Arch Druid Bro. M. L. Thyne occupied the chair at the fortnightly meeting of the Druids' Lodge. Sick pay and accounts totalling £149 10s were passed for payment. Selwopd (Denartment of Agriculture) gave an instructive lantern lecture on grass and clover types and certification of seeds.
