SEIZURE OF PROPERTY
TO TH3 EDITOB Sir, —Mr Russell considers that Mr Neilson's advocacy of Socialism is immoral. If the case for Socialism represents a scientific answer to the query of how society can best be organised and administered, it being recognised that one man's happiness counts for as much as that of any other's, then it deserves a hearing, even if it does involve an attack on private property. Is not all history a case of possession and dispossession? Does Mr Russell consider it immoral that even to-day certain Maori tribes claim compensation for dispossession? Mr Neilson has covered the case for Socialism fairly fully and draws the conclusion that private capitalism represents a menace to mankind. If Mr Russell contests the theories propounded, then we are entitled to an intelligent criticism, not a mere, emotional outburst. A popular misconception is that private property refers toprivate homes, but I presume this is not shared by Mr Russell.—l am, etc., Socialist.
