Ministerial. The Prime Minister (Mr G. W. Forbes) returned to New Plymouth yesterday morning from Mount Egmont (says a Press Association telegram), and spoke to the children of the Central School, which is at present celebrating its jubilee. He was the guest of the. Rotary. Club at luncheon, and'later visited the Waitara and Moturoa oilfields. In the evening he officially opened the school jubilee celebrations. . ..
Mr W. Downie Stewart yesterday received a telegram from the Minister of Finance, Mr J. G. Coates, stating, that he would arrive in Dunedin from Queenstowu on Thursday .evening and would stay at the Grand Hotel until about mid-day on Friday. The Minister will be accompanied by Mrs Coates and the members of the party with which he is visiting South Westland. .. ',:"'.,', .... Sir Cecil Leys, of Auckland, :s visiting Dunedin. He expects to return north this morning. .... At a meeting of dairy, factory representatives on Saturday last, Messrs A.-P. Fleming, Otokia, and F. Waite, Balclutha, were appointed to submit evidence to the Royal Dairv Commission on behalf of the dairy farmers of Otago. The following committee was set up to assist them in the preparation of the evidence:—Messrs A. Anderson. S. Bowman, W. Lee. W. E. M'Lean, A. H. Templeton, and J. Walker. Mr A. G. Hill, who has been in charge of the local office of the Government Tourist Department since the transfer of Mr R W. Coupland to Christchurch, has been transferred to-Auckland, and will leave Dunedin to-day. Mr Hill has been stationed at Wellington, Rotorua, and Waitomo. Mr W. A. Kilner will be in charge of the Dunedin office until a permanent appointment is made. • . _ At the Christchurch Competitions on Saturday, Miss-Lilian Scott, of Balclutha, was placed sec6nd in the song for girls (eight and under 12). and in the same class Miss Gwynneth Watson (Dunedin) was very highly commended. ' In the humorous recitation for (jjrls 12 and. under 16; Miss Daphne Morrison (Dunedin) was highlv commanded, while a similar distinction was secured by Miss Sylvie Bean (Dunedin) in the song in character, eight and undeii.'ll. Dunedin competitors in Misses Sylvie Bean, Meryle Swanson, and Marjoric Rhodes were recalled in the recitation for girls 10 and under 12,: Miss Swanson was again recalled for the recitation in character, in which Miss Gwynneth Watson was highly commended, and a recall was secured by Miss Daphne Morrison in the character story dance. Notice of his transfer to London as representative o£ the New Zealand Government Tourist Department attached to the High Commissioner's Office has been received by Mr G. D. Lishman, head clerk in the department's office in Auckland. He will leave for England by the Tainui on May 30. Mr'Lishman was transferred to the High Commissioner's Office in London in 1929, returning to the Dominion in 1931.
