Believed to be tbe world's oldest woman, having reached the age of 123, Mrs Catherine Brickland was laid to rest in Ballycommon Churchyard, North Offaly, King’s County, Ireland, recently. Born in 1811, she remembered the Crimean War and the first stage coach introduced into Ireland. “ I always loved work” she once said, “and I attribute my long and healthy life to it.” As to tbe modern girl, Mrs Brickland thought her “Shameful, absolutely shameful! Her drees is nothing but a ridicule,” she declared. “It would make a modest man blush. The cosmetics she uses make me ashamed of being a woman at all.”
