BASKETBALL

SATURDAY'S GAMES The weekly competition of the Basketball Association were continued on Saturday afternoon in fairly good playing conditions. UNIVERSITY v. EX-HIGH I. Ex-High I, last year's leading team, suffered its first defeat at the hands of University. The game throughout was evenly contested, but the University players seemed to possess that extra speed of movement which finally gave them victory by the somewhat narrow margin of 22—16. Ex-High seemed to miss the services of Miss Cupples, who was last year the strength of its forward third. In the latter half of the game Ex-High adopted a long pass, hoping by so doing to equalise the score, but this proved its undoing, as the University defenisve players were on the alert and missed very few opportunities. On its play University deserved its win, but if these players are to make a success of their season's play they will need to improve the combination within their forward, third. ALBANY v. ROSLYN. Roslyn played Albany I on Training College Court, which was in a very slippery condition, and consequently play was fairly ragged. The score of 20 goals tc 9 is a fair indication of the game. Albany I being very much stronger than the newly-promoted team. CAVERSHAM v. RAWHITI. *• Rawhiti, fielding two emergencies, were a fairly even match for the Caversham team, although the latter scored eight more goals. Both teams indulged in fairly long passing, which detracted from the attractiveness of the game. Caversham owed its success to the accuracy of its shooting. Score 15 —8. BLUE TRIANGLE v. EX-GIRLS 11. Blue Triangle defeated Ex-Girls II by 25 goals to 6. Triangle was very much quicker, and Ex-Girls lacked combination. Triangle centres played excellently, their handling of the ball being brilliant at times. Their forwards shot accurately, while their field work was good. The final score was 20—6 in Triangle's favour SECOND GRADE. Athletic 14. Blue Triangle 6. Musselburgh 12, Normal 10. THIRD GRADE. Ravens 11, Albany 10. Bluebirds 18, Blue Triangle II 8.
