The first case for a long period of a new London production being seriously booed occurred at the Princess Theatre recently. In its report the Daily Telegraph states that Mr Lawrence Wright’s production “On With the Show ” signally failed to find favour with a large section of the audience, and there were loud shouts of disapproval at the end. The gallery made it very clear that their objections were to the play and not to the efforts of the actors. One man shouted: “ The cast’s all right; it is the show that is wrong.” In an interview Mr Wright said: “We had to meet every kind of difficulty because we had only three days’ work on the stage before the show. Some parts of the show are marvellous; they will be retained. But others were weak; they will be altered or cut out immediately.”
