TRAMWAYS BAND

VISITS TO MENTAL HOSPITALS. With the object of breaking the monotony of institution life the members of the -Dunedin City Tramways Band, under the conductorship of. Mr C. T. Morgan, gave the patients at Orokonui Home and Seacliff a musical treat yesterday. The morning was spent at the Waitati hospital and a fine programme, including some hymns, . was given by the band, much to the delight of the large number gathered to listen. *The journey to Seacliff was broken at Warrington, and a few items were played in the grounds of the James Powell Rest Home, and those taking advantage of convalescent treatment there were cheered by the strains of music. At Seacliff the various exercise courts and parks were visited and a suitable programme was given at each place, so that the patients throughout the entire institution had the opportunity of enjoying the band music. The arrangements for the day were efficiently carried out by the staff at both hospitals, and the bandsmen were well catered for. Thanks on behalf of the patients and staff at Orokonui Home were expressed by Dr Bowell, and at Seacliff by the medical superintendent (Dr Hayes). The agent for the Patients and Prisoners' Aid Society conveyed the thanks of the society to the band for its very great kindness in devoting the day to bringing pleasure to those who so much needed it and by whom it wa§ greatly appreciated.
