DOMINION GOLFERS

BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIP FOUR NEW’ ZEALAND ENTRIES, Beyond l the fact that they had been disqualified in the Bystander’s Foursomes as the result of Miss Kay playing two tee shots at two successive holes, no official news has been received of the two New Zealand golfers; Miss Oliver Kay and Miss Bessie Gaisford, who are to participate in the British Ladies’ Opcti Championship, which commenced yesterday. A letter received from Miss Jessie Reid, of Auckland, who, with Mrs Guy Williams and Miss J. Williams, is spending a holiday‘abroad, and will witness the championship, states that since the arrival of the two Dominion representatives in England the L.G.U. officials have been most kind and helpful. Misses Kay and Gaisford in March witnessed the London Foursomes, played at Stoke Poges, and won by Misses Enid Wilson and Miss Dorothy Pearson, and subsequently had a game with the British pair. Miss Reid presented the L.G.U. prizes at Ranelagh on April 12. The New Zealand pair will have had ample time to become familiar with the Royal Porthcawl course, Glamorganshire, Wales, the venue of the championship, for Miss Reid stated that the party was leaving for Wales on March 29. A cable last week announced that there were 140 entries for the championship and that 64 will qualify. In addition to Misses Kay and Gaisford, two other New Zealanders, Mrs CoUinson (Manawctu) anad Mrs C. N. Jacobsen (Auckland) have entered. Mrs Collinson has been a competitor in Dominion championships for many years, and won the title on 'one occasion at Palmerston North. Mrs Jacobsen, formerly Miss V. Upham, was a promising player before her marriage, Miramar being her home club. She was handicapped on 4, and should she produce her earlier form, is likely to qualify.
