PORT CHALMERS NEWS

ANGLICAN CHURCH

''To commemorate 10 years' activity, former and present pupils, together with parents and friends, assembled in large numbers last week-end in the Sawyers' Bay Anglican Church Sunday School Hall. The proceedings commenced on Saturday with a tea, at which over 70 persons sat down to tables well laden and decorated by the ladies. In the evening a musical programme was given before another large and interested audience. The vicar (the Rev. A. B. Pywell) presided, welcomed the expupils and friends, and conveyed the congratulations of Holy Trinity Vestry to the superintendent (Mr F. H. Hudson) and teachers on the years of substantial progress. , It was specially noted that during this period a fine building had been erected, mainly for Sunday School and Bible class activities, and opened free of all debt.

Mr Hudson, who has been in charge since the inception of the. school, outlined several points of interest in the school history, which all showed how wide an influence for good the work had been.

The speeches of two ex-pupils (Miss Reeves and Mr T. West) were outstanding in their witness to the value of the instruction given in the past, and they expressed their thanks for the provision of the reunion.

On Sunday afternoon a special service marked the occasion. Messrs F. H. Hudson, T. West, and H. Hudson assisted the vicar, who spoke on Christ's interest in children and the responsibility that rested upon teachers, parents, and scholars; Prayers were offered for a blessing upon the activities in coming years. The singing at the service, was bright, and was led by a number of members of Holy Trinity choir, which also rendered a suitable anthem.

A small nionthly paper for parishioners in the Sawyers' Bay district made its appearance over the weekend. It had a good reception and promises a period of usefulness in the work of the church. Holy Trinity vestry is reorganising at the present time, and it is hoped as a result of tHis that definite plans for improvement will be possible. ,
