SHIPPING SERVICE

MAHENO'S SCHEDULE ALTERED f ; . FIRST TRIP END OF OCTOBER Advice was received by the local office of the Union Steam Ship Company yesterday from headquarters in Wellington that arrangements had been made for the Maheno to leave Port Chalmers on her first trip in the new Melbourne service nearly four weeks earlier than the date originally arranged. In response to numerous requests for the Maheno to reach Melbourne in time for the Melbourne Cup, the date of departure of the steamer has now been advanced in order to do this. The Maheno will therefore leave Port Chalmers on October 30, Bluff on October 31, and arrive in Melbourne on Sunday, November 4.

It has also been arranged that passengers will be allowed to remain on the steamer during her stay in Melbourne for bed and breakfast, the charge for this being £6 5s for saloon passengers and £3 16s for second class passengers from the date of arrival until her departure from Melbourne on November 15.
