DUNEDIN FANCIERS’ CLUB SHOW

TO TUE EDITOB. Sir, —As one who has been interested in the fancy for many years as an exhibitor of dogs and poultry, I learned with regret that a rumour is afloat that there will be no dogs at nest month’s annual fixture of the Dunedin Fanciers Club Show. On interviewing the secretary of the club, I was informed that there was no foundation for the rumour, and that the presence of dogs at the show was already assured. He explained that a small section—by no means a majority—of the club members representing the kennel interests had applied for affiliation with the New Zealand Kennel Club as a Dunedin Kennel Club, but that the Dunedin Fanciers’ C’mb would oppose the application, and that it was very doubtful whether it would be granted. The Dunedin Fanciers’Club has been affiliated with the New Zealand Kennel Club for 53 years, and has already been granted affiliation for the next 12 pionths. Consequently it is unlikely that another body will be allowed to hold either shows or parades within the territory of the Dunedin Fanciers’ Club. Were therumour I have referred to not contradicted _ it would have disastrous effects of reducing the entries, and also the attendance of the public at the Fanciers’ Club’s show. It is within my knowledge that in past years disagreements have arisen between the members of the Dunedin Fanciers Club, representing the different interests, and efforts have been made to run separate shows, but always with the inevitable result that lack of patronage has produced unsatisfactory results financially. It takes a combined show to attract the public. There seems to me to be no good reason why the kennel men cannot, as the pigeon, canary, and utility poultry men have done, form a specialist club —call it a Dunedin Kennel Club if they like —and at their meetings discuss the matters which concern them, and them alone, and then combine with the senior club m running a great and attractive show. Hoping that the discordant elements will come together and work harmoniously, and that the New Zealand Kennel Club will refuse affiliation to another club within the territory of Dunedin Fanciers’ Club, — I am, etc., h ancuer. May 9.
