NOTES FROM RICCARTON' :, (Special to Daily Times.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 8. \ The regular galloping tracks at Kiccarton are out of action owing to heavy rain. Some horses were worked steadily on the sand track this morning, but most were given only road exercise. The four-year-old, Imperial Spear, has, been sold by Mr H. A.'Knight, to Mr. C. Kearns, and will leave F. D. Jones's stable, where hi 3 place will be taken by the British Empire—Currency yearling. filly. T '., :. Custodian has rejoined F. D. Jones a team. He looks very well after a short rest and will start soon on a preparation for his three-year-old engagements.' Probably he will do bis spring racing in, Australia, and if the trip is undertaken, Jones will leave for Sydney in July. J. H. Prosser has put Great Star into work again. He has been nominated for Ashburton, but it is not certain that he, will start as he is backward. ' G. Salt went north to-night, and will, ride Royal Limond at Wauganui. His owner alfo made the trip. If the horse races well at Wanganui he will go on to Te Kuiti and Auckland, otherwise he will return home. -■.; The committee of the Canterbury; Jockey Club has increased the stakca for the Grand National meeting by £510.. The Winter Cup has been raised from f 4.00 to £SOO, the other increases being in 11 minor races. The Grand National Steeplechase remains at £IOOO and the. Grand National • Hurdles at £(500. The, distances of five races have been lengthened by a furlong, the ancl August Handicap from six to seven, the Sumner Handicap and the Heathcoto Handicap from a mile to nine furlongs, and the Styx Hurdles from once round, and a distance, to a mile and threequarters. The Cashmere Plate will restriced to horses that have never von,' a race.
