Fleming), eulogised her work as a teacher, and expressed the best wishes of the staff for her future happiness. , At the Christchurch competitions, on Monday, Master Bernard Larsen _ (Dunedin) secured first place in the recitation for boys eight and under 12, and was placed third (equal) in the junior recitation for boys eight and under 12. Miss Ethel Thomas (Dunedin) was awarded third place in the recitation for girls, 12 and under 14, and in the vocal solo, soprano, own selection, the performance of Miss Lucy M'lntosh (Dunedin) was highly commended. Dr William Irving, who was one of the six members of the Board of Governors elected by members of the Christ a College Old .Boys' Association, retired from the board recently (states our correspondent), and the nomination of candidates to fill the vacancy closed on Friday last. Mr Denys Hoare was the only nominee, and has been declared elected. A meeting of representatives of the Otago and Southland Fire and Accident Underwriters' Association was held in the association rooms on Monday afternoon to bid farewell to Mr Thomas Tyrrell, Of the Ocean Accident and Guarantee Corporation, on the occasion of his being transferred to his company's head office in Wellington. Mr Tyrrell has been branch manager for the company in Dunedin for the past 11 years, and was well known and highly esteenKed by his fellow underwriters. The chairman of the association (Mr H. V. Lawry), in handinjr Mr Tyrrell an attache case as a memento of hie association in the underwriting profession in Dunedin, gave expression to the regard in which Mr Tyrrell is held, congratulating him on his promotion, and extending the best wishes of those present for his future haziness and prosperity.
