INCREASING IMPORTANCE . FUNCTIONS OF SCHOOLS. OUTLINED. (PEB UNITISn I'KESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, May 8. Speaking at the conference of the Technical School Teachers' Association, the Director of Education (Mr N. T. Lambourne) said he believed that technical education in its widest sense would play a' far more important part in the education of New Zealand's young people than it did now. Perhaps it was too soon for him to express an opinion on the matter, ho added, but in the course of his administrative duties he had sometimes thought that principals and boards were more concerned with the "high" than with the " technical " part of their designation. It seemed . sometimes to be forgotten that the technical side was the senior part of the school and that the clay school was preparatory to the evening classes. Unless that was realised and acted upon, there would appear little justification for the establishment of technical schools, because, with some further modification in the curricula, secondary schools could provide for. day pupils. That impression might be unwarranted, but it was one that he had felt.
