WANDERING CATTLE ON NORTH ROAD

TO THE EDITOR Sxk,—lt is high time those in authority made an earnest endeavour to keep the Main North road over Mount Cargill free of wandering cattle. On Friday morning last the visibility on this road (due to dense fog) wag very bad indeed, and the writer only narrowly averted an accident when one of these animals crossed leisurely over a few feet in front of him- . . ■ , It is nothing short of criminal for owners to allow their animals to wander at large on this particular piece of road in such weather. On this occcasion there were at least six cows on the road between the Brown House and Souquet’s farm.

Trusting this letter may be the means of waking those responsible up to the fact that wandering cattle, on this piece of road, at all events, are a distinct menace to life and limb.—-I am, etc., Dunedin, May 5. Motorist.
